OptiScore    Outputs & Deliverables

The OptiScore project has the following outputs:

  • Understanding of sensor requirements for automatic measurement of dairy cattle health and welfare characteristics as relevant to dairy cow breeding and selection
  • Evaluation of sensors for measurement of parameters required for development of new measurement protocols for animal condition scoring as required for organic dairy cow breeding
  • Prediction of relationships between feed intake, fat burn efficiency and milk yield for individual dairy cows
  • Cost/benefit analysis of new sensor implementation and measurement protocol
  • Dairy cow condition score measurement protocols using new electronic sensors and identification of further developments required for the implementation of a sustainable organic dairy breeding programme

The OptiScore project deliverables are:

  • Individual cow feed intake model and fat burn efficiency based on automated sensors
  • Economic cost/benefit analysis of new sensor and measurement protocol implementation on commercial organic dairy farms
  • Dairy cow condition scoring protocols using automated sensors
  • Dissemination of knowledge transferred during project
